— and Why We’re All Pumped for the Grand Slam Coming This January!
Pickleball has exploded around the world over the last few years, but one of the biggest milestones for Australian pickleball happened just last year — when pickleball was played on the same courts used in a tennis Grand Slam.
And not just any Grand Slam.
We’re talking about the Australian Open Tennis Tournament — the only Grand Slam tournament in the entire Southern Hemisphere.
Seeing pickleball played on Australian Open Grand Slam courts was huge. It showed just how fast the sport is growing and how it’s now being recognised. Players stepped onto the same surfaces where legends have battled it out under the bright Melbourne lights — and this time, pickleball paddles were doing the talking.
For pickleball players, it was a proud moment.
For tennis fans, it was a fascinating crossover.
For everyone watching, it was proof that pickleball has officially broken into the global sporting scene.
And now, with the January Australian Open Grand Slam right around the corner, the excitement is starting all over again.
Every summer, the Australian Open Grand Slam brings unmatched energy — world-class tennis, packed stadiums, hot Melbourne days, and that unmistakable Grand Slam buzz. Even though we’re running sessions here at Mitchelton and Arana Hills, you can bet a bunch of us will be tuning in to watch the Grand Slam unfold.
Why should pickleball players care about the Australian Open Grand Slam?
Because elite tennis sets the tone for technique, tactics, movement and innovation across all racquet and paddle sports. Watching the best players in the world fight through five-set epics can teach you a surprising amount about strategy, positioning, mindset, footwork — all things that matter just as much in pickleball.
The hype of the Australian Open Grand Slam always inspires people to pick up a paddle, try something new, or get back into regular play. So if the Grand Slam gets you fired up this January, we’ve got Come & Try sessions, coaching, social play, leagues, and tournaments ready for you.
