How to Start Playing Pickleball in Brisbane: Gear, Rules & First Sessions
New to the game? Here’s everything you need to know to get started with pickleball in Brisbane.
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in Australia — and for good reason. It’s easy to learn, super social, and perfect for all ages and fitness levels.
If you’re based in Brisbane and curious about how to start playing pickleball, this guide covers it all: the rules, what gear you need, where to go for your first session, and how Pickle Kit Pickleball can help you get started.
What Is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It’s played on a smaller court with a lower net and uses a lightweight paddle and plastic ball with holes.
The goal? Be the first team to reach 11 points, winning by 2, in fast-paced but strategic doubles play.
Pickleball Rules (Made Simple)
Serve underhand, diagonally across the court
Only the serving team can score
Let the ball bounce once on each side before volleying
Stay out of the non-volley zone (the "kitchen") unless the ball bounces there
Games are usually played to 11 points, win by 2
