What Skill Level Am I in Pickleball? (Brisbane Guide)
One of the biggest questions we get from new and returning players is:
“What level should I be playing?”
The challenge is that pickleball skill levels can vary a lot between clubs, and in many cases players are expected to jump straight into games without a clear starting point — which can make it hard to know where you actually fit.
At Pickle Kit, sessions follow a clear progression pathway, so you always know:
where to start
what to work on
and when you’re ready to move up
If you’re unsure where you fit, this guide will help.

What About DUPR? (Pickleball Rating Explained)
You might’ve heard of DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) — a global rating system used to measure player level.
It’s a helpful guide, but it’s not everything.
At Pickle Kit:
DUPR can help give a starting point
But progression is based on Picke Kit match results within our sessions and player base
This gives a more accurate reflection of your level in our environment.
Why This Structure Matters
One of the biggest frustrations for new players is not knowing where they fit — or jumping into games that feel too fast too early.
Having a clear starting point and progression makes a big difference:
You build confidence faster
Games are more even
Progress feels more measurable
It also means players aren’t guessing their level — they’re working toward it.
Why Skill Levels Feel Different Between Clubs
You might feel:
Strong at one venue
Challenged at another
That’s normal.
Different clubs:
Have different player pools
Structure sessions differently
Apply levels differently
That’s why it’s always best to align with the system of the club you’re playing at.
Not Sure Where You Fit?
That’s completely normal.
The best approach is simple:
Start one level lower than you think.
From there:
You’ll build confidence
Adjust to the pace
And we’ll guide you into the right sessions
